John Bateman is a shareholder in the Industrial and Consumer Product Liability and Toxic Tort Practice Groups in the Philadelphia office of Lavin, O’Neil, Ricci, Cedrone & Disipio. He is lead trial and appellate counsel for automotive, industrial, recreational and consumer product manufacturers in product liability and commercial cases.

Mr. Bateman has defended and handled trials and appeals before courts in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts and has litigated cases in over 20 states. In particular, Mr. Bateman has defended the manufacturers of trucks, aerial lift devices, automobiles, electrical components, motor coaches, and other industrial and consumer products. Mr. Bateman also defends toxic tort claims in multiple jurisdictions.

Mr. Bateman has been an adjunct professor at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts , cum laude, in Politics and Government from the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut. He earned his Juris Doctor from the Temple University School of Law in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, the United States District Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the District of Massachusetts and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Before joining the Lavin firm, Mr. Bateman was associated with the Boston, Massachusetts firm of Campbell, Campbell, Edwards and Conroy (1988-1990). He is a graduate of the International Association of Defense Counsel Trial Academy (2001, University of Colorado at Boulder).

Mr. Bateman is a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel and the Pennsylvania Defense Institute.

Personal

Mr. Bateman is a co-chair of the Martin J. McGonigle Memorial 5K Race Committee. He coaches teams in the Media Little League and the Rose Tree Soccer Club.  He resides with his wife and three children in Media, Pennsylvania.
